HELP Foundation Africa Report on Galamsey Advocacy for 2025
Illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, remains one of Ghana’s most pressing environmental, socio-economic, and governance challenges. Beyond the destruction of forests, rivers, and agricultural lands, illegal mining has evolved into a complex national security, public health, food security, and governance crisis that threatens the country’s sustainable development aspirations. During the 2025 reporting period, HELP Foundation Africa (Human Environment and Livelihood Platform Foundation) intensified its advocacy and policy engagement to promote sustainable natural resource governance and comprehensive reforms aimed at addressing the structural drivers of illegal mining in Ghana.
